Small changes, big impact

Information Overload

Do you feel overwhelmed by all the conflicting advice you’ve heard

about what to eat,  or how to exercise and manage stress?

Maybe a friend swears by intermittent fasting but a nutritionist you follow says frequent meals are best for your blood sugar levels.

Is cardio OK or should you only do strength training? And are squats actually bad?

Does all the advice to manage stress just further stress you out?

Are you frustrated by the constant cycle of starting and stopping new health routines without seeing lasting results?

Do you crave a balanced and flexible approach to wellness that allows you to enjoy life while still taking care of your health?

Do you wish you could eat ice cream once in a while and not feel guilty about it?

Are you highly motivated to change but don't know where to start?

I know the feeling

I was addicted to sugar and productivity for much of my life. The busy-ness kept me distracted and the sugar was my attempt to self-soothe. I had the appearance of a high-functioning person, but below the surface was a simmering ocean of irritation that would rear its head at minor inconveniences. My mind was a chaotic tangle of overthinking, worrying and blaming everything outside of myself. I would swing from one extreme to another, quitting all refined sugar for a few weeks and then going full binge when the restriction period ended, if not sooner.

Change started small. I read a book about self-awareness and began paying attention to the things my mind would say. Around that time I started taking yoga classes where I was asked to pay attention to my body, mind and breath. I read more books on self-help and learned practical tips to change the habits I knew were interfering with my wellness.

Transformation continued...

I changed careers and went to school for acupuncture and herbal medicine. There I discovered the profound interplay between the body, mind and emotions. I learned a comprehensive system of medicine that acknowledges the broader context of human existence within nature. I witnessed first-hand the power of addressing a person's symptoms through a wider lens that incorporates the body, mind, emotions and natural environment.

After working with many patients over the years, I’ve realized something: those who actively engage in their wellness journey and embrace lifestyle shifts are the ones who experience lasting changes.

Rigidity is not sustainable

Oftentimes we set ourselves up for failure from the start.

In a moment of great excitement to change our ways we proclaim we’ll do something extreme: quit all forms of refined sugar cold turkey, start lifting weights 4 times a week, meditate every day for an hour. For most of us, this is just not sustainable. What usually happens next is defeat. We fail to reach these unattainable goals and then beat ourselves up for failing.

I know, small changes don’t feel nearly as exciting as massive overhauls.

You want to tell your friends you quit sugar, not that you’ve reduced sugar.

But the truth is, small change is what’s truly sustainable

and more likely to take you to your goal.

You must acknowledge where you are on your path and what the next step is—not the next olympic leap.

Resistant to change

Say you have tried implementing small, manageable changes, but somewhere along the way, old habits started creeping back in. All of a sudden the house is full of processed food again and you don’t even know where your gym bag is.

Change can seem impossible.

You’ve been this way for as long as you can remember.

Can’t teach an old dog new tricks, right? Wrong.

Make the Change

The latest research shows that the human brain is not static—it is dynamic and capable of change, adaptation and growth well into old age.

Yet, doing the same thing as usual is the easy route. It feels comfortable and doesn’t take much thought. The brain is an organ of efficiency and going through the same habitual pattern takes little energy. It’s comfortable in the rut. This is why we often feel stuck on autopilot. It takes self-awareness to acknowledge this and it takes courage to venture to change oneself.

I'm here to help.

Here's how

Comprehensive Evaluation

Together we’ll review all areas of your health and wellbeing including nutrition, exercise, stress levels, sleep, mental clarity, emotional stability, social life and creativity. This is the self-awareness component.

Sustainable-Changes Plan

Based on the evaluation, we’ll identify the most important areas of change. We’ll create a long-term (6 months) and short-term (weekly and monthly) plan to begin enacting these changes. I will meet you where you are so that these changes feel both possible and sustainable. We will meet virtually at the beginning of every month and I will check in with you periodically throughout the month.

Group Support

We will work together with a small group of like-minded people--tell your friends! Each individual will have their unique plan, but we’ll all be working towards making lasting changes in our lives. The group will meet at the end of each month to share progress and encourage each other. Each group meet will include a presentation on a different aspect of health and wellness including: nutrition, blood sugar stabilization with tips for vacations and holidays, ways to easily add exercise to your routine and how different types of exercise work, mindfulness and meditation and why it matters, the connection between emotions and the body, navigating additives in the environment (PFAS, BPA, sulfates, pesticides, synthetic hormones etc.), along with any other relevant topics for the group.

What is your current state of wellness?
